For health insurance, Nevada runs its own state exchange, Nevada Health Link (NevadaHealthLink.com), not HealthCare.gov. Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs Nov 1, 2026 – Jan 15, 2027. Premium tax credits are available only through Nevada Health Link, which also sells the state’s Battle Born State Plans.

How Nevada Health Link works
Nevada Health Link is the state’s official Marketplace, run by the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. It is the only place Nevadans can get federal premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions on an individual or family plan. HealthCare.gov points Nevada residents to Nevada Health Link rather than selling Nevada plans itself.
Like every ACA health insurance Marketplace, Nevada Health Link plans cover essential health benefits such as hospital care, doctor visits, prescriptions, maternity, mental health and preventive care, and no insurer can turn you down for a pre-existing condition. Plans come in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers, plus Catastrophic plans for people under 30 or with a hardship exemption.
You can enroll on your own at NevadaHealthLink.com, by phone, or with a certified broker or enrollment professional. The Nevada Division of Insurance says the 2027 market has 12 insurers offering 165 plans on and off the exchange, but financial help is available only through the exchange (Nevada DOI, Oct 1, 2026).
2027 Open Enrollment and start dates in Nevada
Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs from November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027, according to the Nevada Division of Insurance and Nevada Health Link. Window shopping opened in October, so you can preview plans before you apply.
Nevada sets its own coverage start dates. In recent seasons, Nevada Health Link started coverage on January 1 for people who enrolled by December 31 and on February 1 for those who enrolled January 1–15 (Nevada Health Link). Confirm the 2027 cutoff on NevadaHealthLink.com; the safest plan is to finish by mid-December.
After January 15, you need a qualifying life event, such as losing coverage, moving to Nevada, marriage or a birth, to open a Special Enrollment Period. Nevada Medicaid and Nevada Check Up accept applications all year. National context is in our Open Enrollment 2027 guide.
Battle Born State Plans and Nevada’s reinsurance program
Battle Born State Plans (BBSPs) are state-contracted Marketplace plans that Nevada introduced for 2026 to lower monthly costs. They include the same benefits and follow the same rules as other Nevada Health Link plans, and they return for 2027.
For 2027, BBSPs are offered statewide through Health Plan of Nevada, Anthem (Community Care Health Plan of Nevada) and SilverSummit Healthplan (Ambetter), according to Nevada Health Link’s announcement reported by KOLO 8 News. You compare them side by side with other plans; a BBSP is not automatically the best fit if your doctors aren’t in its network.
Nevada also runs a state reinsurance program. CMS approved Nevada’s Section 1332 waiver for January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2030 to support reinsurance and the Battle Born State Plans (CMS fact sheet). Reinsurance is designed to hold down premiums for everyone, which matters most for people above 400% FPL who get no tax credit.
Honesty.AI compares both by your doctors, prescriptions and subsidy, side by side.
Insurers on Nevada Health Link for 2027
Nevada Health Link lists nine health insurers for 2027: Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, CareSource, Community Care Health Plan of Nevada (Anthem), Health Plan of Nevada, Imperial, Kaiser Permanente (formerly Hometown Health), Molina Healthcare, Select Health and SilverSummit Health Plan (Ambetter).
Kaiser Permanente is new to Nevada’s Marketplace in name. Hometown Health, previously owned by Renown Health, is becoming Kaiser Permanente Nevada, with new plan options for northern Nevada for 2027 (Kaiser Permanente). Not every carrier sells in every county; rate filings show Select Health, for example, in Clark and Nye counties.
The Division of Insurance reports an average on-exchange rate increase of 17% for 2027, after large increases in 2026. Your own change depends on your plan, age, ZIP and subsidy, so don’t auto-renew without comparing.
Nevada Medicaid, Nevada Check Up and 2027 changes
Nevada expanded Medicaid, so adults 19 to 64 with income up to about 138% of the federal poverty level can generally qualify for Nevada Medicaid. Children in families with somewhat higher incomes may qualify for Nevada Check Up, the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. Apply at Access Nevada or through Nevada Health Link, which screens you for both.
Federal law brings changes in 2027. Nevada Medicaid officials say many expansion adults must document 80 hours a month of work, job training, school or community service starting January 1, 2027, and renewals move to every six months. Current members generally face the requirement at their 2027 renewal, and exemptions cover groups such as pregnant people and parents of children under 13 (This Is Reno).
Losing Medicaid? If you lose Nevada Medicaid, you can usually enroll in a Nevada Health Link plan through a Special Enrollment Period and may qualify for a premium tax credit.
Premium tax credits for Nevadans in 2027
Nevadans with household income between about 138% and 400% of the federal poverty level who lack affordable job coverage can get a premium tax credit on Nevada Health Link. The credit caps what you pay for the benchmark Silver plan at 2.15% to 10.22% of income for 2027.
The enhanced credits that covered higher earners expired on December 31, 2025, so the 400% cliff is back: $63,840 for one person and $132,000 for a family of four under the 2026 guidelines. Silver plans also carry cost-sharing reductions up to 250% FPL. See the IRS premium tax credit basics and our 2027 subsidy guide.
Starting January 1, 2027, premium tax credits for non-citizens are limited to green card holders, certain Cuban and Haitian entrants and Compact of Free Association migrants. Other lawfully present immigrants can still buy a plan without the credit (HealthCare.gov). The 2027 out-of-pocket maximum is $12,000 for one person and $24,000 for a family.
Choosing health insurance in Nevada: a checklist
The best way to choose health insurance, Nevada shoppers find, is to start from the care you use and work back to the plan. Price matters, but a plan that leaves out your doctor or your prescription costs more in the end.
- Confirm where you buy. Make sure you are on NevadaHealthLink.com or working with a certified broker or assister, so your premium tax credit applies.
- List your doctors, hospital and prescriptions. Check each one in the plan’s 2027 network and drug list, not last year’s.
- Compare a Battle Born State Plan with a regular plan at the same metal tier from the same county.
- Look at the deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, not just the monthly premium, especially if you qualify for cost-sharing reductions on a Silver plan.
- Report your best estimate of 2027 income, and update it if a job, raise or business change moves the number during the year.
Many people who shop for health insurance in Nevada are self-employed, work in hospitality and gaming, drive for rideshare or delivery apps, or retired before 65. Members of federally recognized tribes can enroll or switch plans monthly and may get extra cost-sharing protections. Our guide on how to choose a health plan walks through each step.
Las Vegas, Reno and rural Nevada
Health insurance, Nevada-wide, looks different in the south, the north and the rural counties. We wrote local guides for the two areas Nevadans search most:
- Health insurance in Las Vegas, NV covers Clark County networks, UMC, hospitality and union coverage, and Southern Nevada Health District clinics.
- Health insurance in Reno, NV covers Washoe County, Renown, Kaiser Permanente’s arrival and northern Nevada community health centers.
In rural Nevada, fewer carriers sell plans and hospitals can be far apart. Check which hospital each plan uses and whether you’ll be covered when you travel to Las Vegas, Reno or Salt Lake City for specialist care.
Free help and consumer protection in Nevada
For health insurance Nevada applications, Nevada Health Link offers free help from trained, certified enrollment professionals and a directory of licensed brokers on its Find Assistance page. You can also call 1-800-547-2927. Because Nevada runs its own exchange, localhelp.healthcare.gov is not the main directory here.
For insurer complaints, claim denials or questions about rates, contact the Nevada Division of Insurance, which reviews health rate filings and regulates carriers.
