Health Insurance Las Vegas, NV: 2027 Plans & Local Help in Clark County

For health insurance, Las Vegas residents buy individual and family plans through Nevada Health Link, the state exchange, not HealthCare.gov. Open Enrollment for 2027 runs Nov 1, 2026 – Jan 15, 2027. Clark County shoppers can choose Battle Born State Plans, and adults under about 138% of the poverty level can qualify for Nevada Medicaid.

Health insurance Las Vegas basics: where to buy

Las Vegas sits in Clark County, home to most of Nevada’s population. Because Nevada runs its own exchange, Las Vegas residents shop on Nevada Health Link, directly, by phone at 1-800-547-2927, or with a certified broker or enrollment professional. Premium tax credits are available only on plans bought there.

Open Enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. In recent seasons, Nevada Health Link started coverage January 1 for anyone who enrolled by December 31, with January enrollments starting February 1. Confirm the 2027 cutoff on the exchange, and aim to finish by mid-December. National dates and rules are in our Open Enrollment 2027 guide.

Hospitality, gaming and union coverage in Las Vegas

Las Vegas runs on hospitality, gaming and entertainment, and that shapes how people get health insurance. Las Vegas workers in union jobs may already be covered: the Culinary Health Fund, sponsored by the Culinary Union and Las Vegas-area employers, covers eligible members and their families.

If you have that coverage, you generally don’t need a Marketplace plan and can’t get a premium tax credit while it’s offered to you. The Marketplace matters when things change: leaving a covered job, losing eligibility after reduced hours, or moving to a non-union property. Losing coverage opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period, so act quickly.

When you shop for health insurance, Las Vegas job patterns matter. Non-union hospitality workers, dealers, entertainers, convention and event staff, and the many rideshare and delivery drivers in the valley often have no job-based plan at all. For them, Nevada Health Link is the main door to coverage.

UMC and Las Vegas hospital networks

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) is Clark County’s public hospital and, according to UMC, home to Nevada’s only Level I trauma center, only designated pediatric trauma center and only verified burn center (UMC). In a serious accident anywhere in the valley, that’s often where you’ll go.

Las Vegas also has several large private hospital systems, and Marketplace networks differ in which ones they include. Before you pick a 2027 plan, confirm your primary care doctor, any specialists and the hospital closest to your home are in-network. Emergency care must be covered at in-network rates, but follow-up care and specialists are where out-of-network bills appear.

We don’t rank carriers or hospitals. A plan that leaves out your cardiologist or your child’s pediatrician is rarely a good deal, however its premium looks.

Battle Born and other Clark County plans

Battle Born State Plans are Nevada’s state-contracted Marketplace plans, designed to lower monthly costs, and for 2027 they’re offered statewide, including Clark County, through Health Plan of Nevada, Anthem’s Community Care Health Plan of Nevada and SilverSummit. They have the same benefits and rules as other Nevada Health Link plans.

Clark County also has the widest choice of other carriers in Nevada. Nine insurers sell on Nevada Health Link for 2027, though not all sell in every county; Select Health’s filing, for example, covers Clark and Nye counties. Compare a Battle Born plan and a regular plan at the same metal tier, then let your doctors and prescriptions decide.

Nevada’s reinsurance program, approved by CMS through 2030, is meant to hold down premiums across the market (CMS fact sheet). That matters most for higher-earning Las Vegas households above 400% FPL, who get no tax credit for 2027.

Tips, shifts and your subsidy

Your premium tax credit is based on your estimated 2027 household income, and in a tip-and-shift economy that estimate is harder than it sounds. Include tips, overtime and side income, and remember that slow seasons and busy convention weeks average out over the year.

The credit caps what you pay for the benchmark Silver plan at 2.15% to 10.22% of income, and it ends at 400% FPL ($63,840 for one person, $132,000 for a family of four). If your income at year-end is higher than your estimate, you may repay part of the credit when you file in 2028. Update Nevada Health Link if your hours or pay change. Our 2027 subsidy guide explains how, and the affordable health insurance Nevada guide has the full income tables.

Low-cost clinics in Southern Nevada

The Southern Nevada Health District runs the Southern Nevada Community Health Center, a federally qualified health center that serves patients regardless of insurance and offers sliding-fee discounts based on income and family size (SNHD). The health district also runs public health centers around the valley for immunizations, family planning and sexual health services.

These clinics are a strong medical home for primary care, but they don’t cover a hospital stay or a specialist. If you’re uninsured, use them while you apply for Medicaid or a Nevada Health Link plan.

Nellis families and UNLV students

Nellis Air Force Base sits in the northeast valley. Active-duty families use TRICARE, which counts as qualifying coverage. When someone leaves the service or a young adult ages out of TRICARE, that loss of coverage opens a Special Enrollment Period on Nevada Health Link.

UNLV students can usually stay on a parent’s plan until 26, use a university student plan, or buy their own. Independent students with low incomes may qualify for Nevada Medicaid or a sizable premium tax credit, so check before assuming the student plan is the only route.

Nevada Medicaid in Clark County

Nevada expanded Medicaid, so Clark County adults with income up to about 138% FPL can generally qualify, and children may qualify for Nevada Check Up at higher incomes. Apply anytime at Access Nevada or through Nevada Health Link.

Starting January 1, 2027, many expansion adults must document 80 hours a month of work, training, school or community service, and renewals move to every six months. Exemptions include pregnant people and parents of children under 13. Watch for letters from Nevada Medicaid, and if you lose coverage, move to a Nevada Health Link plan through a Special Enrollment Period.

If you’re comparing health insurance, Las Vegas early retirees included, remember that turning 65 means moving to Medicare, not staying on a Marketplace plan. Plan the switch a few months ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Do Las Vegas residents use HealthCare.gov?

No. Nevada runs its own exchange, so Las Vegas residents shop on Nevada Health Link. Premium tax credits are available only on plans bought through Nevada Health Link.

I have Culinary Health Fund coverage. Do I need a Marketplace plan?

Generally no. If you are covered through the Culinary Health Fund, you don’t need a Marketplace plan. If you lose that coverage, for example by leaving a covered job, you get a 60-day Special Enrollment Period to buy one.

What is UMC in Las Vegas?

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada is Clark County’s public hospital. UMC says it is home to Nevada’s only Level I trauma center, only designated pediatric trauma center and only verified burn center.

How should I estimate income if I earn tips?

Estimate your total 2027 household income, including tips, overtime and side work, averaged across slow and busy seasons. Update Nevada Health Link if it changes, because the credit is reconciled on your 2027 tax return.

Where can uninsured people get low-cost care in Las Vegas?

The Southern Nevada Health District runs the Southern Nevada Community Health Center, which serves patients regardless of insurance on a sliding-fee scale. You can also apply for Nevada Medicaid at any time.
