Updated for the 2027 plan year (October 2026)
This guide is for Little Rock and the rest of Pulaski County, including North Little Rock, Sherwood, Maumelle and Jacksonville, plus nearby Saline and Faulkner county commuters. For statewide rules see our Arkansas health insurance guide; for income limits and subsidy math, the affordable health insurance Arkansas page.
Health insurance Little Rock: hospitals and your network
Little Rock is Arkansas’s medical center, and people from across the state come here for specialty care. That makes the network question more important than usual: you want a plan that includes the hospital you would actually use, not just one nearby.
- UAMS Health, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, home of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.
- Arkansas Children’s, the state’s pediatric hospital system, with its main hospital in Little Rock.
- Baptist Health-Little Rock and CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, two large systems with clinics across central Arkansas.
Look up your primary doctor, specialists and preferred hospital in each plan’s provider directory, then call to confirm. Families with a child who sees specialists at Arkansas Children’s, or anyone in cancer treatment at UAMS, should make this the first filter when comparing health insurance in Little Rock.
How and when to enroll for 2027
Arkansas runs a state-based Marketplace on the federal platform, so Little Rock residents apply on HealthCare.gov, directly or with a licensed agent or approved partner. Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Choose a plan by December 15 for a January 1 start; later sign-ups start February 1.
| You are… | Where to start |
|---|---|
| An adult 19–64 up to about 138% FPL | ARHOME via Access.Arkansas.gov |
| A parent with kids under 19 | ARKids First for the children; check your own eligibility too |
| Earning above 138% FPL, no job coverage | HealthCare.gov plan with a premium tax credit (up to 400% FPL) |
| Active-duty or retired military family | TRICARE |
| A veteran | VA eligibility, plus a Marketplace plan for family members if needed |
Insurers for 2027 have changed. Preliminary filings came from Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliates and Centene’s QCA Health Plan, while Celtic Insurance Company and QualChoice Life and Health Insurance Company did not file. If your insurer sends a non-renewal notice, choose a new plan before December 15. Our Open Enrollment 2027 guide lists what to gather.
ARHOME changes in 2027 for Pulaski County
ARHOME, Arkansas’s Medicaid expansion, uses Medicaid funds to buy private Marketplace plans for adults 19 to 64 with income up to about 138% of the poverty level. Starting January 1, 2027, most members must complete at least 80 hours a month of work, volunteering or school, unless exempt; members out of compliance get 30 days to show it before benefits are suspended.
Exemptions include pregnant and postpartum women, disabled veterans, caregivers and people with special medical needs. You can report activities by phone, online or at your local DHS county office, and Pulaski County has several. Centene also plans to stop participating in ARHOME in 2027, so members in its plans should watch for instructions about moving to another plan.
Honesty.AI checks your eligibility, finds plans that include your Little Rock doctors and applies your subsidy, 24/7.
Little Rock Air Force Base families and veterans
Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville gives Pulaski County a large military community. Active-duty members and their families are covered by TRICARE, so most don’t need a Marketplace plan while serving.
The transition is where people get caught. When a service member separates or a dependent ages out of TRICARE, losing that coverage is a qualifying life event that opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period on HealthCare.gov. Veterans can use VA Central Arkansas Health Care on West Seventh Street if eligible, but VA care usually doesn’t cover a spouse or children, who may need their own plan.
Community clinics and help with medical bills
Little Rock has community health centers that see patients with or without insurance. Jefferson Comprehensive Care System runs clinics including the Downtown Little Rock Community Health Center on Main Street, a clinic at Arkansas Baptist College, a North Little Rock site and Open Hands, its health care for the homeless clinic. These centers can also help with ARHOME and ARKids applications.
For hospital bills, UAMS Health’s financial assistance program is open to qualifying Arkansas patients; you apply with an application packet and get a decision within 30 days of a complete submission. Other nonprofit hospitals are required to publish financial assistance policies too, so ask before paying a large bill.
Students, freelancers and early retirees in Little Rock
Little Rock’s colleges, state agencies and hospitals employ thousands, but plenty of residents buy their own coverage. Students at UA Little Rock and other local schools can stay on a parent’s plan until 26 or, if no one claims them as a dependent, buy a Marketplace plan based on their own income. Freelancers and small-business owners should estimate 2027 income from recent months. Early retirees under 65 face the 400% subsidy cliff, so timing retirement-account withdrawals carefully can keep health insurance in Little Rock affordable for the years before Medicare.
A practical rule for health insurance, Little Rock edition: confirm the network, confirm your prescriptions are on the drug list, then compare total yearly cost.
Subsidies and rates for health insurance in Little Rock
Premium tax credits continue for 2027, though smaller than before the enhanced credits expired December 31, 2025. Below 400% FPL ($63,840 for one person, $132,000 for four), the benchmark silver premium is capped at 2.15% to 10.22% of income. Above that line there is no credit for 2027.
Arkansas insurers proposed 2027 changes from 3.1% to 15.9%, after a 22.2% average increase approved for 2026. For health insurance, Little Rock shoppers who earn up to 250% FPL should compare silver plans, which add cost-sharing reductions. The 2027 subsidies guide has the full table.
Storm season and Special Enrollment
Central Arkansas sees severe spring storms and tornadoes. Keep your plan’s member ID, policy number and insurer phone number saved on your phone, not just on a card at home. If a disaster forces you to move or causes you to miss an enrollment deadline, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period; contact HealthCare.gov as soon as you can.
Free in-person enrollment help is listed at localhelp.healthcare.gov, and the Arkansas Insurance Department Consumer Services Division, headquartered in Little Rock, handles insurer and agent complaints at 501-371-2640. If family in Northwest Arkansas is shopping too, see our Fayetteville guide.
